Join Laura, and a special guest, as she shares her story in order to break the silence around post-natal health. Laura is here to tell new parents: you are not alone. Laura Dockrill had an idyllic pregnancy and couldn't wait to meet her new baby. But as she went into labour things began to go wrong and Laura began to struggle. A traumatic birth, anxiety about the baby, sleep deprivation, a slow recovery - all these things piled up until Laura, like any new mum, felt overwhelmed. As many as 8 out of 10 new mums struggle in the weeks after birth. In Laura's case these feelings escalated into postnatal psychosis. She became paranoid and delusional and had to be institutionalised and separated from her baby. Throughout this time she was haunted by a sense of: 'What have I done?'. Laura's experience was devastating but this will be an event full of hope. Not only has Laura recovered, she has come out the other side stronger and more assured about parenting. "Having had a terrible time after the birth of my first born I was so overwhelmed with relief that Laura wrote this book for those of us who didn’t have the fairy-tale. A must read for all of those muddling through." - Paloma Faith Times: 11am-12pm Tickets: £13.50*, Under 25's £5*, Festival Friends £2 off Venue: The Apex, Bury St Edmunds *Includes £1 booking fee This event is promoted by Bury Festival and Words Weekend.
