Suffolk’s fully professional Philharmonic Orchestra returns with a programme of grandeur and reflection, with Mahler in his more intimate mood, and Tchaikovsky at his most imposing.
The most restrained of all his symphonies, (it even has no trombones!), Mahler’s Fourth is a cascade of seductively lovely melodies that begins with sleigh-bells and ends with a child’s folk song. In between is one of the most tender and soulful slow movements ever written. Two prize-winning young artists join the Suffolk Philharmonic for this feast of fabulous music, the delightful New Zealand soprano Eliza Boom, and the breathtaking Chinese pianist Ke Ma.
